Liga Promotion that was due to commence the following year, this season would see the reduction in the number of teams competing from 16 to 10. This reconstruction was done to decrease the competitive gap between the two top tiers by converting the second to a purely professional league. The new Promotion League would therefore serve as the semi-professional link to amateur football. Therefore, six teams were due to be relegated, however, as Neuchâtel Xamax were demoted from the top tier to the sixth level, subsequently only five teams were relegated.6 May 2011 Die Dreiviertelfrage de Walliser Bote https://www.e-newspaperarchives.ch/?a=d&d=WAB20110506-01.2.18.2 Final league table main WDL PR STG St. Gallen AAR Aarau BEL Bellinzona WIN Winterthur LUG Lugano WIL Wil CHI Chiasso VAD Vaduz LOC Locarno BB Biel-Bienne WOH Wohlen SN Stade Nyonnais EC Étoile Carouge DEL Delémont KRI Kriens BRU Brühl 19 7 4 67 31 C,P 18 5 7 64 34 18 5 7 49 21 15 8 7 44 29 14 7 9 44 38 12 10 8 59 41 11 12 7 34 23 13 6 11 54 45 12 9 9 47 44 12 7 11 55 54 9 9 12 39 44 8 10 12 41 49 R 8 6 16 25 56 R 4 8 18 24 60 R 4 5 21 37 66 R 4 4 22 30 78 R green1 Promoted to 2012–13 Swiss Super League P green2 Qualification for Promotion play-off PP red1 Relegation to 2012–13 1.
