It took place at the Stade Louis II in Monaco on 27 August 2010. It was contested by Inter Milan, who won the 2009–10 UEFA Champions League, and Atlético Madrid, who won the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League. Neither side had previously competed in the UEFA Super Cup. As part of a trial that started in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League, two extra officials – one on each goal line – were used in this match.UEFA welcomes IFAB referee trial decision https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/0252-0ce1fa43099d-a7161bbf372c-1000--uefa-welcomes-ifab-referee-trial-decision/ UEFA Union of European Football Associations 22 July 2010 22 July 2010 https://web.archive.org/web/20100723003628/http://en.uefa.com/uefa/footballfirst/matchorganisation/refereeing/news/newsid%3D1506902.html 23 July 2010 live Background For the first time since Chelsea played Real Madrid in 1998, both teams were playing in their first UEFA Super Cup. Inter Milan reached the Super Cup as winners of the 2009–10 UEFA Champions League, having beaten Bayern Munich 2–0 in the final at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, while Atlético Madrid beat Fulham 2–1 in the 2010 UEFA Europa League Final at the HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg to claim their first major European honour since the 1962 Cup Winners' Cup and their place in the Super Cup. Although the 2009–10 Champions League was not Inter's first European title, the Super Cup was not established until eight years after their last European Cup win in 1965 and the UEFA Cup winners did not qualify for the Super Cup until after the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was disestablished in 1999 (Inter last won the UEFA Cup in 1998); they have never won the Cup Winners' Cup. Atlético's 1962 Cup Winners' Cup win also came before the establishment of the Super Cup.Debutants vie for Super Cup crown https://www.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/0250-0c50f3d8006f-1a30ddfc0e57-1000--debutants-vie-for-super-cup-crown/ UEFA Union of European Football Associations 25 June 2010 7 July 2010 Inter and Atlético Madrid had never played against each other in European competition, and both teams had exact 50% records against teams from the other's country: in 37 matches against Spanish opposition, Inter had both won and lost 13 matches, with the remaining 11 ending as draws, while Atlético had won six, lost six and drawn two matches against Italian opposition. Venue and ticketing The Stade Louis II in Monaco has been the venue for the UEFA Super Cup every year since 1998. Built in 1985, the stadium is also the home of AS Monaco, who play in the French league system. Approximately 30% of the 18,500 seats in the stadium were reserved for fans of each of the two teams involved; these tickets were available from the two clubs.UEFA Super Cup 2010 – FAQ https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/competitions/Ticketing/01/49/89/28/1498928_DOWNLOAD.pdf PDF UEFA Union of European Football Associations 7 July 2010 Approximately 1,500 of the remaining tickets went on sale to the general public via the UEFA website on 5 July 2010; applications closed on 16 July. If the number of applications exceeds the number of tickets available, a random ballot will occur to determine ticket allocation.Apply for UEFA Super Cup tickets https://www.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/0250-0c50f4e239e0-2f30ed43474b-1000--apply-for-uefa-super-cup-tickets/ UEFA Union of European Football Associations 5 July 2010 7 July 2010 https://web.archive.org/web/20100708195029/http://en.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/newsid%3D1500899.html 8 July 2010 live Match Details 27 August 2010 20:45 CEST Inter Milan ITA 0–2 https://www.uefa.com/uefasupercup/match/2002327/ ESP Atlético Madrid Reyes 62Agüero 83 Stade Louis II, Monaco 17,265Full Time Report https://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/SuperCup/2010/2002327_FR.pdf PDF UEFA Union of European Football Associations 27 August 2010 28 August 2010 Massimo Busacca (Switzerland)Massimo Busacca to referee UEFA Super Cup https://www.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/0250-0c50f4325fac-5438198ecc88-1000--massimo-busacca-to-referee-uefa-super-cup/ UEFA Union of European Football Associations 25 August 2010 25 August 2010 https://web.archive.org/web/20100826041555/http://en.uefa.com/uefa/footballfirst/matchorganisation/refereeing/news/newsid%3D1518302.html 26 August 2010 live _inter1011h _interhome2010 _inter1011h _inter1011h _inter1011A 000000 000000 000000 000000 FFFFFF Inter MilanLine-ups https://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/SuperCup/2010/2002327_LU.pdf PDF UEFA Union of European Football Associations 27 August 2010 27 August 2010 _am1011h _AM1011H _am1011h _ned10a _redtop FFFFFF FFFFFF FFFFFF 0000FF 0000FF Atlético Madrid GK 1 BRA Júlio CésarRB 13BRA MaiconCB 25ARG Walter Samuel 90+2CB 6 BRA LúcioLB 26ROU Cristian ChivuCM 5 SRB 2004 Dejan Stanković 68CM 4 ARG Javier Zanetti (c)CM 19ARG Esteban CambiassoAM 10NED Wesley Sneijder 79AM 9 CMR Samuel Eto'oCF 22ARG Diego MilitoSubstitutes:GK 12ITA Luca CastellazziDF 2 COL Iván CórdobaDF 23ITA Marco MaterazziMF 17KEN McDonald MarigaMF 29BRA Philippe Coutinho 79FW 27MKD Goran Pandev 68FW 88FRA 1974 Jonathan BiabianyManager:ESP Rafael Benítez300px GK 13ESP David de GeaRB 17CZE Tomáš UjfalušiCB 21COL Luis PereaCB 15URU Diego GodínLB 18ESP Álvaro DomínguezDM 12BRA Paulo AssunçãoRW 19ESP José Antonio Reyes 69AM 8 ESP Raúl García 89LW 20POR Simão (c) 85 90+1CF 10ARG Sergio AgüeroCF 7 URU Diego Forlán 82Substitutes:GK 27ESP Joel RoblesDF 3 ESP Antonio LópezMF 4 ESP Mario SuárezMF 6 ESP Ignacio Camacho 90+1MF 9 ESP José Manuel Jurado 82MF 11ESP Fran Mérida 69FW 22BRA Diego CostaManager:ESP Quique Sánchez Flores Man of the Match: José Antonio Reyes (Atlético Madrid)Kevin Ashby Reyes realises goal dream https://www.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/0250-0c50f4f19130-5c9480f437c7-1000--reyes-realises-goal-dream/ UEFA Union of European Football Associations 27 August 2010 28 August 2010 Named as the official man of the match, Reyes spoke with enthusiasm about the influence of coach Quique Sánchez Flores... https://web.archive.org/web/20100829051337/http://en.uefa.com/uefasupercup/news/newsid%3D1520426.html 29 August 2010 live Assistant referees: Matthias Arnet (Switzerland) Manuel Navarro (Switzerland) Fourth official: Sascha Kever (Switzerland) Additional assistant referees: Stéphan Studer (Switzerland) Cyril Zimmermann (Switzerland)Match rulesRegulations of the UEFA Super Cup 2010 https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/competitions/Regulations/01/50/01/40/1500140_DOWNLOAD.pdf https://web.archive.org/web/20100910193635/http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/competitions/Regulations/01/50/01/40/1500140_DOWNLOAD.pdf dead September 10, 2010 UEFA Union of European Football Associations 27 August 2010 90 minutes. 30 minutes of extra time if necessary.
