Rather than in the traditional autumn-spring format the Oberliga played for six seasons from 1955 to 1960 in the calendar year format, modelled on the system used in the Soviet Union. From 1961–62 onwards the league returned to its traditional format. The league was contested by fourteen teams. National People's Army club ASK Vorwärts Berlin won the championship, the club's first of six national East German championships.https://www.rsssf.org/tablesd/ddrchamp.html East Germany - List of Champions RSSSF 19 January 2016https://www.dfb.de/historie/ddr-fussball/meister/ DDR-Meister dfb.de German Football Association 19 January 2016 de East German champions On the strength of the 1958 title Vorwärts qualified for the 1959–60 European Cup where the club was knocked out by Wolverhampton Wanderers in the preliminary round.https://www.rsssf.org/ec/ec195960.html European Competitions 1959-60 RSSSF 19 January 2016 Helmut Müller of SC Motor Jena was the league's top scorer with 17 goals.http://www.weltfussball.de/torschuetzenkoenige/gdr-oberliga/ DDDR » Oberliga » Torschützenkönige Weltfussball.de 19 January 2016 de DDR-Oberliga top scorers Table The 1958 season saw two newly promoted clubs, SC Dynamo Berlin and SC Empor Rostock.https://www.rsssf.org/tablesd/ddrhist.html East Germany 1946-1990 RSSSF 19 January 2016http://www.weltfussball.de/spielplan/gdr-oberliga-1958-spieltag/26/ DDR » Oberliga 1958 Weltfussball.de 19 January 2016 de DDR-Oberliga 1958 main WDL QR 2 VWB ASK Vorwärts Berlin JEN SC Motor Jena ABS SC Aktivist Brieske-Senftenberg KMS SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt EIN SC Einheit Dresden DYN SC Dynamo Berlin ROS SC Empor Rostock ZWI BSG Motor Zwickau LOK SC Lokomotive Leipzig ROT SC Rotation Leipzig ERF SC Turbine Erfurt WEI SC Fortschritt Weißenfels HAL SC Chemie Halle BAB BSG Rotation Babelsberg 17 4 5 50 24 C 15 2 9 49 36 12 6 8 41 25 10 8 8 43 32 11 6 9 38 39 10 6 10 37 34 10 6 10 33 31 8 10 8 38 41 8 9 9 40 28 10 5 11 38 41 8 6 12 33 44 8 6 12 30 42 7 8 11 30 50 R 5 4 17 32 65 R green1 Qualification to European Cup preliminary round EC lavender FDGB-Pokal winners FPW red1 Relegation to DDR-Liga R R complete Results main FBR grey ABS CHH DBE EIN ROS WEI LOK MJE ZWI BAB ROT ERF VBE WIS Vorwärts Berlin 4–0 2–0 2–0 4–0 2–1 3–1 5–0 1–0 4–1 1–0 3–1 3–2 2–0 Motor Jena 2–0 3–0 1–0 5–2 1–2 3–2 3–0 3–1 1–0 2–0 1–0 4–0 6–1 Aktivist Brieske-Senftenberg 2–0 4–0 1–1 1–1 1–0 0–0 4–1 2–1 3–2 2–0 4–0 3–0 5–0 Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt 0–2 4–0 3–0 6–0 3–1 1–0 2–2 1–0 1–1 2–2 3–0 4–0 3–0 Einheit Dresden 3–1 3–2 2–0 2–2 0–0 2–1 2–1 1–0 5–0 0–2 2–0 1–2 5–1 Dynamo Berlin 1–2 2–1 0–2 2–0 0–0 2–1 3–1 1–1 6–3 0–2 4–0 5–1 2–1 Empor Rostock 3–1 2–1 0–0 4–1 1–3 2–0 0–2 0–0 3–1 2–1 2–0 1–1 3–0 Motor Zwickau 2–2 1–1 1–1 1–1 2–0 1–1 3–0 2–1 4–0 3–1 4–3 1–1 3–0 Lokomotive Leipzig 1–0 1–2 1–1 0–0 1–1 2–0 0–1 0–0 0–2 4–3 6–0 3–0 5–0 Rotation Leipzig 1–2 1–2 1–0 3–0 1–0 4–1 0–0 1–1 2–4 1–1 2–0 1–0 4–0 Turbine Erfurt 0–0 1–0 2–1 1–3 2–2 0–2 0–1 2–1 2–2 0–3 1–0 4–2 3–1 Fortschritt Weißenfels 1–1 2–0 0–2 2–0 3–0 2–0 3–1 4–0 1–1 0–0 0–0 0–0 3–2 Chemie Halle 1–1 1–1 1–0 4–1 1–0 0–0 1–1 3–1 1–1 2–1 3–2 2–4 1–2 Rotation Babelsberg 1–2 2–4 3–2 1–1 0–1 1–1 2–1 0–0 1–4 1–2 6–1 1–1 5–0 complete References Sources 1991 Das war unser Fußball im Osten This was our football in the East de Fußball-Woche (fuwo) Berlin Axel-Springer-Verlag External links Das Deutsche Fussball Archiv de Historic German league tables Category:1958 in domestic association football leagues 1958 Ober Ober Ober
