Robert Jr. Ponce de Leon Park The 1908 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team represented the Georgia Institute of Technology during the 1908 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. J. R. Davis was selected All-Southern. Vanderbilt coach Dan McGugin wrote, "He has one glaring fault—a tendency to tackle around the eyebrows. Otherwise he is a splendid foot ball man. He weighs two hundred pounds, is never hurt, never fumbles, bucks a line hard and furnishes excellent interference. He was the strength and stay of Tech."Spalding's Football Guide 1909 75 Shawnee Mission, Kansas, NCAA Publishing Service https://archive.org/stream/officialfootball1909nati#page/75 Schedule thumb|300px|The team in action October 3 w y 1908 Gordon Bulldogs Gordon College (Georgia) Gordon Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA 32–0 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-atlanta-journal-tech-defeats-gordon/146983386/ The Atlanta Journal Tech defeats Gordon Institute in first game of season October 4, 1908 May 10, 2024 Newspapers.com October 10 w y Mooney Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA 30–0 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-atlanta-journal-inman-bells-arm-bro/146983544/ The Atlanta Journal Inman Bell's arm broken in scrimmage October 11, 1908 May 10, 2024 Newspapers.com October 17 w Mississippi A&M Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA 23–0 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-democrat-tech-wins-easily/140905114/ The Times-Democrat Tech wins easily October 18, 1908 February 13, 2024 Newspapers.com October 24 w Alabama Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA rivalry 11–6 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/71265531/tech-played-havoc-with-alabama-plays/ The Atlanta Constitution Tech played havoc with Alabama plays October 25, 1908 August 2, 2021 Newspapers.com October 31 l Tennessee Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA rivalry 5–6 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/82689071/tennessee-won-fierce-game-from-tech/ The Atlanta Constitution Tennessee won fierce game from Tech November 1, 1908 August 2, 2021 Newspapers.com November 7 l Auburn Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA rivalry 0–44 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-montgomery-advertiser-auburn-downs-g/146978689/ The Montgomery Advertiser Auburn downs Georgia Tech November 8, 1908 May 10, 2024 Newspapers.com November 14 l Sewanee Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA 0–6 https://www.newspapers.com/article/chattanooga-daily-times-techs-lose-to-se/136976751/ The Chattanooga Daily Times Techs lose to Sewanee November 15, 1908 December 17, 2023 Newspapers.com November 19 w y Mercer Central City Park Macon, GA 16–6 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/121080845/techs-line-crossed-fumble-gave-mercer/ Tech's line crossed; Fumble gave Mercer touchdown unlooked for in game at Macon The Commercial Appeal November 20, 1908 March 17, 2023 Newspapers.com November 26 w Clemson Ponce de Leon Park Atlanta, GA rivalry 30–6 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-charlotte-observer-clemson-goes-down/146983653/ The Charlotte Observer Clemson goes down November 27, 1908 May 10, 2024 Newspapers.com http://www.ramblinwreck.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/geot/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/08-media-guide-119-208 Georgia Tech Media Guide August 9, 2015 https://web.archive.org/web/20150924084613/http://www.ramblinwreck.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/geot/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/08-media-guide-119-208 September 24, 2015 deadhttps://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/georgia-tech/1908-schedule.html 1908 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Schedule and Results Before the season The University of Georgia attacked Tech's recruitment tactics in football.http://www.library.gatech.edu/archives/finding-aids/display/xsl/UA300 Inventory of the Athletic Association Records, 1892–1978 Georgia Tech Archives Georgia Tech Library 2007-09-21 https://web.archive.org/web/20100621074643/http://www.library.gatech.edu/archives/finding-aids/display/xsl/UA300 21 June 2010 UGA alumni incited a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association investigation into Tech's recruitment of a player UGA had recruited as well. The Georgia Alumni claimed that Tech had created a fraudulent scholarship fund, which they used to persuade the player to attend Tech rather than UGA. The SIAA ruled in favor of Tech, but the 1908 game was canceled that season due to bad blood between the rivals.
