Team changes from 2005–06 Three teams from the 2. Bundesliga were promoted at the end of previous season: VfL Bochum (champions) Alemannia Aachen (runners-up) Energie Cottbus The three teams relegated were: 1. FC Kaiserslautern 1. FC Köln MSV Duisburg Season overview VfB Stuttgart began the campaign with the youngest squad of the Bundesliga and were widely seen as a competitor for a UEFA Cup berth. They began their season with a 0–3 home defeat against 1. FC Nürnberg and even dropped in reach of the relegation zone after another home defeat against Borussia Dortmund during the third round. During the rest of the season the team managed to stabilize in the upper third of the table, eventually winning the last eight games of the season while competitors Schalke 04, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich struggled. Stuttgart went on to claim their third championship in the Bundesliga and fifth German championship overall with a 2–1 home victory against Energie Cottbus during the last round of the season. One week after winning the league championship, Stuttgart failed to win the Double after losing the 2007 DFB-Pokal Final against Nürnberg with a score of 2–3. Manager Armin Veh who claimed his first championship as a Bundesliga coach was elected German Football Manager of the Year, while striker Mario Gómez was named Footballer of the Year (Germany) in 2007.https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/mario-gomez-10-things-vfb-stuttgart-world-cup-bayern-munich-besiktas-479947.jsp Mario Gomez: 10 things on the VfB Stuttgart star 2019-01-27 27 May 2020 https://web.archive.org/web/20200527063334/https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/mario-gomez-10-things-vfb-stuttgart-world-cup-bayern-munich-besiktas-479947.jsp dead Team overview Germany 350 right Location of teams in the 2006–07 Fußball-Bundesliga Germany 50.789973 6.094327 Aachen Germany 52.511274 13.242632 Hertha BSC top Germany 52.022833 8.522395 Bielefeld Germany 51.482987 7.211397 Bochum top Germany 53.065337 8.836722 Bremen Germany 51.751262 14.334669 Cottbus Germany 51.512139 7.463394 Dortmund Germany 50.069206 8.644234 Frankfurt Germany 53.587095 9.898711 Hamburg Germany 52.360771 9.730700 Hannover left Germany 51.037708 7.002651 Leverkusen Germany 50.000928 8.245731 Mainz bottom Germany 51.174530 6.385407 Mönchengladbach Germany 48.218773 11.624760 Bayern Germany 49.426230 11.125740 Nürnberg Germany 51.554498 7.067554 Schalke left Germany 48.792295 9.232141 Stuttgart Germany 52.421923 10.784980 Wolfsburg Stadia and locations TeamLocationVenueCapacity Alemannia Aachen Alemannia Aachen AachenTivoli21,300 Arminia Bielefeld Arminia Bielefeld BielefeldSchüco Arena28,008 Bayer Leverkusen Bayer Leverkusen LeverkusenBayArena22,500 Munchen Bayern Bayern Munich MunichAllianz Arena69,901 Bochum VfL Bochum BochumRuhrstadion31,328 Borussia Dortmund Borussia Dortmund DortmundSignal Iduna Park80,708 Borussia Monchengladbach Borussia Mönchengladbach MönchengladbachBorussia-Park54,067 Eintracht Frankfurt Eintracht Frankfurt FrankfurtCommerzbank-Arena52,300 Energie Cottbus Energie Cottbus CottbusStadion der Freundschaft22,450 Hamburger SV Hamburger SV HamburgHSH Nordbank Arena57,274 Hannover 96 Hannover 96 HanoverAWD-Arena49,000 Hertha BSC Hertha BSC BerlinOlympic Stadium74,228 Mainz Mainz 05 MainzStadion am Bruchweg20,300 Nuremberg 1.
