The effort almost worked, as the group ultimately led by Olympic bronze medalist Wang Zhen held the lead until the bell. At almost that moment, returning bronze medalist Miguel Ángel López had finally worked his way back to the lead. The strain of leading showed on Wang's face as Lopez cruised past. Lopez built upon that lead for the final lap and route back into the stadium. Canadian Benjamin Thorne set the Canadian record on his way to the bronze medal in a national record time. A deeper story might be in who was not here. After years of the Viktor Chegin drug related cheating scandal, no Russian athlete entered the race, ending their dominance of world podiums. Recent world record setting Yusuke Suzuki also dropped out near the half way mark with a hip injury. Andrés Chocho was making an effort to challenge the leaders late into the race, but instead was invited to leave the course with a red paddle. http://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-world-championships/news/beijing-2015-men-20km-race-walk REPORT: MEN'S 20KM RACE WALK – IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, BEIJING 2015 23 August 2015 iaaf.org 27 August 2015 Records Prior to the competition, the records were as follows:http://www.iaaf.org/records/by-discipline/race-walks/20-kilometres-race-walk/outdoor/men Records & Lists – Race Walk IAAF 18 August 2015 World recordYusuke Suzuki JPN1:16:36Nomi, Japan15 March 2015Championship recordJefferson Pérez ECU1:17:21Saint-Denis, France23 August 2003World LeadingYusuke Suzuki JPN1:16:36Nomi, Japan15 March 2015African recordHatem Ghoula TUN1:19:02Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany10 May 1997Asian recordYusuke Suzuki JPN1:16:36Nomi, Japan15 March 2015North, Central American and Caribbean recordJulio René Martínez GUA1:17:46Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany8 May 1999South American recordJefferson Pérez ECU1:17:21Saint-Denis, France23 August 2003European recordYohann Diniz FRA 1:17:02 Arles, France8 March 2015Oceanian recordNathan Deakes AUS1:17:33Cixi, China23 April 2005 Qualification standards Time 2012 IAAF World Championships Beijing 2015 – Standards http://media.aws.iaaf.org/competitioninfo/544c7d0a-0807-4226-a85b-79928c58a097.pdf IAAF 18 August 2015 1:25:00 Schedule Date Time Round23 August 2015 08:30 Final All times are local times (UTC+8) Results The race was started at 08:30.Final results KEY:NRNational recordPBPersonal bestSBSeasonal best Rank Name Nationality Time Notes Miguel Ángel López ESP 2015 World 1:19:14 PB Wang Zhen CHN 2015 World 1:19:29 Benjamin Thorne CAN 2015 World 1:19:57 NR Canadian 04 4 Ihor Hlavan UKR 2015 World 1:20:29 SB 05 5 Cai Zelin CHN 2015 World 1:20:42 06 6 Caio Bonfim BRA 2015 World 1:20:44 SB 07 7 Éider Arévalo COL 2015 World 1:21:13 08 8 Dane Bird-Smith AUS 2015 World 1:21:37 09 9 Chen Ding CHN 2015 World 1:21:39 10 Kim Hyun-sub KOR 2015 World 1:21:40 11 Lebogang Shange RSA 2015 World 1:21:43 NR South African 12 Evan Dunfee CAN 2015 World 1:21:48 SB 13 Isamu Fujisawa JPN 2015 World 1:21:51 14 Inaki Gomez CAN 2015 World 1:21:55 SB 15 Eder Sánchez MEX 2015 World 1:21:56 SB 16 Álvaro Martín ESP 2015 World 1:22:04 17 Quentin Rew NZL 2015 World 1:22:18 SB 18 Hagen Pohle GER 2015 World 1:22:29 19 Massimo Stano ITA 2015 World 1:22:53 20 Giorgio Rubino ITA 2015 World 1:23:23 21 Ruslan Dmytrenko UKR 2015 World 1:23:37 22 José Leonardo Montaña COL 2015 World 1:23:53 23 Dzianis Simanovich BLR 2015 World 1:23:54 24 Tom Bosworth GBR 2015 World 1:23:58 25 Alexandros Papamichail GRE 2015 World 1:24:11 26 Jared Tallent AUS 2015 World 1:24:19 27 Federico Tontodonati ITA 2015 World 1:24:33 28 Horacio Nava MEX 2015 World 1:24:40 SB 29 Diego Garcia ESP 2015 World 1:24:52 30 Georgiy Sheiko KAZ 2015 World 1:24:58 31 Julio César Salazar MEX 2015 World 1:24:58 32 Chris Erickson AUS 2015 World 1:25:15 33 Kévin Campion FRA 2015 World 1:25:16 34 Nils Brembach GER 2015 World 1:25:21 35 Gurmeet Singh IND 2015 World 1:25:22 36 João Vieira POR 2015 World 1:25:49 37 Mauricio Arteaga ECU 2015 World 1:25:50 38 Christopher Linke GER 2015 World 1:26:10 39 Ivan Losyev UKR 2015 World 1:26:32 40 Anatole Ibáñez SWE 2015 World 1:26:34 41 Chandan Singh IND 2015 World 1:26:40 42 Juan Manuel Cano ARG 2015 World 1:27:10 43 Marco Antonio Rodríguez BOL 2015 World 1:27:15 44 Anton Kučmín SVK 2015 World 1:27:46 45 Choe Byeong-kwang KOR 2015 World 1:28:01 46 Richard Vargas VEN 2015 World 1:28:18 47 Eiki Takahashi JPN 2015 World 1:28:30 48 José María Raymundo GUA 2015 World 1:29:01 49 Yerko Araya CHI 2015 World 1:29:12 50 Kenny Martín Pérez COL 2015 World 1:29:31 51 Pavel Chihuán PER 2015 World 9:99:99 DNF 51 Perseus Karlström SWE 2015 World 9:99:99 DNF 51 Baljinder Singh IND 2015 World 9:99:99 DNF 51 Yusuke Suzuki JPN 2015 World 9:99:99 DNF 51 Erik Tysse NOR 2015 World 9:99:99 DNF 51 Sérgio Vieira POR 2015 World 9:99:99 DNF 52 Byun Young-jun KOR 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 52 Andrés Chocho ECU 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 52 Aliaksandr Liakhovich BLR 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 52 Marius Šavelskis LTU 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ 52 Alex Wright IRL 2015 World 9:99:99 DQ References 20 kilometres walk Category:Race walking at the World Athletics Championships
