In 1880, Plastilin (or Plasteline) was patented in Germany by Franz Kolb. It was further developed by Claude Chavant in 1892 and trademarked in 1927.http://www.sculpturetools.com/chavant/cart/plasteline.html Plasteline sculpturetools.com https://web.archive.org/web/20080820132041/http://www.sculpturetools.com/chavant/cart/plasteline.html August 20, 2008 dead It is a form of modelling clay for use in building and sculpting.Putman, Brenda, (1939). The Sculptor’s Way: A Guide to Modelling and Sculpture. Farrar & Rinehart, Inc, New York, p. 8 It is a precursor of plasticine, which would become the favourite product for clay animators, as it did not dry and harden (unlike normal clay) and was much more malleable than its harder and greasier Italian predecessor plasteline.Frierson Michael 1993 The Invention of Plasticine and the Use of Clay in Early Motion Pictures Film History 5 2 142–157 27670717 0892-2160
The Zoopraxiscope of Eadweard Muybridge was introduced in 1880 at the California School of Fine Arts.Eadward Muybridge (1830–1904) http://www.iphf.org/Hall_Of_Fame/Inducties_Bios/Eadweard_Muybridge_Bio.html International Photography Hall of Fame February 3, 2010 September 29, 2010 https://web.archive.org/web/20100929161635/http://iphf.org/Hall_Of_Fame/Inducties_Bios/Eadweard_Muybridge_Bio.html dead Muybridge did project moving images from his photographs with his Zoopraxiscope, from 1880 to 1895, but these were painted on discs and his technique was no more advanced than similar earlier demonstrations (for instance those by Franz von Uchatius in 1853).Lipton Lenny https://books.google.com/books?id=NRIoEAAAQBAJ&dq=%22muybridge%22%20not%20first%20motion%20picture&pg=PA86 The Cinema in Flux: The Evolution of Motion Picture Technology from the Magic Lantern to the Digital Era 2021-04-07 Springer Nature 978-1-0716-0951-4 en The first discs were painted on the glass in dark contours. Discs made between 1892 and 1894 had outlines drawn by Erwin Faber photographically printed on the disc and then colored by hand, but these discs were probably never used in Muybridge's lectures.http://www.stephenherbert.co.uk/muy%20blog3.htm#part15 Compleat Eadweard Muybridge - Muy Blog 2009 www.stephenherbert.co.uk usurped https://web.archive.org/web/20180119060646/http://www.stephenherbert.co.uk/muy%20blog3.htm January 19, 2018
