Partial general elections had already been due to happen in 1854; under the electoral system at the time, Deputies were elected to six-year terms, with elections held every three years, renewing half the Chamber's membership at a time. The last partial general election was in 1851. On 15 May 1854 however, the Simons government prematurely dissolved the Chamber, and organised elections to renew its entire membership for 14 June. This dissolution was due to conflict between the executive and the legislature.24 May 1854 Die Auflösung der Kammer https://persist.lu/ark:70795/fz31pj/pages/1/articles/DTL34 10 January 2024 Wächter an der Sauer 1–2 de Results Successful candidates are marked in bold CantonSeatsCandidateFirst roundSecond roundVotesVotesLuxembourgEugène FischerElected after the first round Note11105Théodore PescatoreElected after the first round Note11088Dominique StiffElected after the first round Note11013Augustin LampachElected after the first round Note1971Michel JonasElected after the first round Note1940Norbert MetzElected after the first round Note1835Édouard AschmannElected after the first round Note1779Auguste FischerElected after the first round Note1745Mathias HertertElected after the first round Note1686Valentin WahlElected after the first round Note1676Turnout1200DiekirchJoseph TschiedererJean JuttelChrétien MerschCharles FaberJean AngelsbergUlrichTurnout -EchternachMichel WitryJean-Pierre FöhrNicolas ArendtMathias HardtTurnout -GrevenmacherAntoine PescatoreMathias WawerJean-Pierre KleinPierre Müller-WalseJoseph RitterAuguste MetzSchornKnaffTurnoutRemichGustave LesselWillibrord MacherJoseph-Chrétien GretschJacques DiederichTurnoutWiltzCharles MathieuJacques BernardMichel FrèresÉdouard ThilgesMichel FallisTurnoutClervauxJean-Pierre ToutschLucien RichardBernard NeumannCharles-Gérard EyschenTurnoutEsch-sur-AlzetteVictor de TornacoAuguste CollartThéodore De WacquantNicolas SchmitJean SteichenGraasHemmerTurnoutMerschMichel ClémentHenri WitryJean-Pierre HoffmannJean-Pierre HeuardtTurnoutRedangeNicolas SchröderRénilde-Guillaume JacquesCharles BassingNicolas HippertTurnoutCapellenCharles CollartElected after the first round Note1Jean-Baptiste-Henri-Melchior FunckElected after the first round Note1Jean-Guillaume KremerElected after the first round Note1Dominique ElterElected after the second round Round2ThibesartTurnoutViandenJean DaleydenTurnout Analysis In Luxembourg canton, the entire list of candidates supported by the democratic-liberal anti-Simons Courrier du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg was elected with a large majority; in Mersch, 3 of the 4 successful candidates were on the Courrier's list. Notwithstanding the results in these two cantons, the elections were generally seen as a win for the pro-Simons government, reactionary side, over those supporting the 1848 Constitution and democratic rights; the Courrier stated "in several cantons, the reactionary candidates prevailed over the constitutional candidates and the old majority is seriously affected."17 June 1854 Grand-Duché de Luxembourg.
