It was the sixth season of the league held during the Second World War but was not completed as Nazi Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945. Cancellation The league operated in a large number of regional divisions, the effects of the war having forced a further regionalisation. The effects of the war led to the cancellation of all Gauliga competition and various stages from September 1944 onwards. In Southern Germany competitions continued up to almost the end of the war. Only the Gauliga Hamburg had an official champion recorded with Hamburger SV winning the competition.http://www.f-archiv.de/ Gauliga final tables f-archiv.de 17 January 2016 dehttp://www.claudionicoletti.eu/wordpress2/campionati-nazionali-in-europa/all-final-tables/f-r-germany-league-final-tables/frg-1940-41/frg-1944-45/ Germany 1944–45 claudionicoletti.eu 17 January 2016 https://web.archive.org/web/20150923204836/http://www.claudionicoletti.eu/wordpress2/campionati-nazionali-in-europa/all-final-tables/f-r-germany-league-final-tables/frg-1940-41/frg-1944-45/ 23 September 2015 dead kicker Allmanach 1990, page: 243-245 The last recorded official Gauliga game was Munich derby between FC Bayern and 1860 Munich on 23 April 1945, ending 3–2.http://www.abseits-soccer.com/essays/nazi.html https://web.archive.org/web/20030606191838/http://abseits-soccer.com/essays/nazi.html usurped 6 June 2003 Soccer in the Third Reich: 1933-1945 abseits-soccer.com The Abseits Guide to German Soccer 17 January 2016 League football soon resumed in post-war Germany in mostly regional competitions.
