Villa also got the ball in the net for a second time a few seconds before the end of the match but this goal was also disallowed. Brian Moore's commentary on the winning goal is displayed on a giant banner across the Doug Ellis Stand of Villa Park: Shaw, Williams prepared to venture down the left. There's a good ball in for Tony Morley. Oh, it must be and it is! It's Peter Withe. As defending European champions, Villa were invited into the European Cup, European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup for the following season. Their defence of the European Cup ended in a quarter-final defeat to Juventus. They beat Barcelona 3–1 on aggregate to win the Super Cup, but lost 2–0 to Uruguayan club Peñarol for the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo, Japan. After the game, a number of players swapped shirts; Peter Withe and Nigel Spink later received their shirts back.FC Bayern Munchen: Peter Withe und Klaus Augenthaler tauschen Trikots https://fcbayern.com/museum/de/news/2016/08/augenthaler-witheFC Bayern Munchen: Villa legend Nigel Spink at the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt https://fcbayern.com/museum/en/news/2018/6/nigel-spink-visits-the-erlebniswelt As of 2024, captain Dennis Mortimer was still looking for his shirt.Ridge James Arthur Renard 24 April 2024 Former Aston Villa captain: 'I've been trying to find my European Cup Final shirt for a while now' https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/former-aston-villa-midfielder-ive-been-trying-to-find-my-european-cup-final-shirt-for-a-while-now 8 October 2024 fourfourtwo.com Details 26 May 1982 20:15 CEST Bayern Munich FRG 0–1 https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=1981/matches/round=1032/match=63804/index.html ENG Aston Villa Withe 67 De Kuip, Rotterdam 46,000 Georges Konrath (France) _standard9900h _fcbay75h _feyenoord91 _adidaswhite _3_stripes_white FF0000 FF0000 FF0000 FF0000 FF0000 Bayern MunichUEFA official teamsheet 26 May 1982 UEFA Official Teamsheet - Aston Villa archive - Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/131794257@N07/48921835816/in/album-72157718055304716 _4thinstripesonwhite _sides_on_white _2claretstripes FFFFFF 970045 FFFFFF 970045 FFFFFF Aston Villa GK 1 FRG Manfred MüllerRB 2 FRG Wolfgang DremmlerCB 4 FRG Hans WeinerCB 5 FRG Klaus AugenthalerLB 8 FRG Paul Breitner (c)RM 10FRG Reinhold Mathy 51CM 6 FRG Wolfgang Kraus 78CM 7 FRG Bernd DürnbergerLM 3 FRG Udo HorsmannCF 9 FRG Dieter HoeneßCF 11FRG Karl-Heinz Rummenigge Substitutes:GK 12FRG Walter JunghansMF 13FRG Kurt Niedermayer 78DF 14FRG Hans PflüglerMF 15ISL Ásgeir SigurvinssonMF 16FRG Günter Güttler 51Manager:HUN Pál Csernai300px GK 1 ENG Jimmy Rimmer 9RB 2 ENG Kenny SwainCB 5 SCO Ken McNaughtCB 4 SCO Allan EvansLB 3 ENG Gary Williams 38CM 6 ENG Dennis Mortimer (c)CM 10ENG Gordon CowansCM 7 SCO Des BremnerRF 8 ENG Gary ShawCF 9 ENG Peter WitheLF 11ENG Tony MorleySubstitutes:MF 12ENG Pat HeardMF 13SCO Andy BlairFW 14ENG David GeddisDF 15ENG Colin GibsonGK 16ENG Nigel Spink 9Manager:ENG Tony Barton Match officials Linesman (red flag): Joel Quiniou (France)UEFA Matchday Programme 26 May 1982 UEFA Matchday Programme https://www.easyliveauction.com/catalogue/lot/9e40c1bbc1998632a2f3e8cb9be87b18/0af8d24542e81eb9357e7ef448a6646f/sports-memorabilia-auction-600-lots-lot-119/ Linesman (yellow flag): Rene Lopez (France) See also 1981–82 FC Bayern Munich season 1981–82 Aston Villa F.C. season 1982 European Cup Winners' Cup final 1982 European Super Cup 1982 UEFA Cup final FC Bayern Munich in international football Aston Villa F.C. in European football References External links 1981–82 season at UEFA website Final Category:FC Bayern Munich matches Category:Aston Villa F.C. matches 1982 Category:1981–82 in Dutch football Category:1981–82 in German football Category:1981–82 in English men's football Category:May 1982 sports events in Europe Category:20th century in Rotterdam Category:Football matches in Rotterdam Category:England–Germany football rivalry
