Led by Hal Mumme in his fourth and final season as head coach, the Wildcats compiled an overall record of 2–9 with a mark of 0–8 in conference place, placing last out of six teams in the SEC's Eastern Division. The team played home games at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky. Mumme resigned in early 2001 following an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations.https://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/sfc/2001-02-06-mumme.htm USA Today Mumme resigns as Kentucky football coach February 7, 2001 January 26, 2026 The committee concluded that Mumme was innocent of any rules violations and did not receive any individual sanctions, though the committee said that Mumme failed to properly monitor the activities of the recruiting office.
