1985 World Women's Curling Championship Jönköping, Sweden Rosenlundshallen March 17–23, 1985 North Shore Winter Club Vancouver, British Columbia Linda Moore Lindsay Sparkes Debbie Jones Laurie Carney (Isobel Torrance Jr.) 1984 1986 The 1985 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as 1985 H&M World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 17–23 at the Rosenlundshallen in Jönköping, Sweden. Canada's Linda Moore rink defeated Scotland's Isobel Torrance team in the final, 5–2. Both teams played cautiously, but Scotland, who were the youngest team at the event, made more mistakes. Canada took a significant lead in the sixth end, when they stole a point to lead 3–1 after Torrance tried a hit and stick, but rolled out of the house. Canada stole another point in the ninth to lead 5–2 after Torrance was light on a draw attempt. In the final end, Moore ran Scotland out of stones after making a take out of a rock in the 12-foot. Prior to Moore's shot, Scotland were sitting two, but needed three to tie. It was Canada's second straight championship, the first country to win two straight titles. Switzerland's Erika Müller won the bronze medal, defeating Sweden, skipped by Inga Arfwidsson in the bronze medal game, 6–4.Moore, mates celebrate a proud day March 24, 1985 9 Victoria Times-Colonist https://www.newspapers.com/clip/121404301/times-colonist/ March 22, 2023 Teams North Shore Winter Club, North Vancouver Skip: Linda Moore Third: Lindsay Sparkes Second: Debbie Jones Lead: Laurie CarneyHvidovre CC, Hvidovre Skip: Helena Blach Third: Jette Olsen Second: Malene Krause Lead: Lone KristoffersenMont d'Arbois CC, Megève Fourth: Huguette Jullien Skip: Paulette Sulpice Second: Andrée Dupont-Roc Lead: Jocelyn LhenrySC Riessersee, Garmish-Partenkirchen Skip: Andrea Schöpp Third: Monika Wagner Second: Christiane Jentsch Lead: Elinore SchöppCortina CC, Cortina d'Ampezzo Skip: Maria-Grazzia Constantini Third: Tea Valt Second: Nella Alvera Lead: Angela ConstantiniTrondheim CC, Trondheim Skip: Eva Vanvik Third: Åse Vanvik Second: Alvhild Fugelmo Lead: Else SkoganHamilton & Thornyhill CC, Hamilton Skip: Isobel Torrance Jr. Third: Margaret Craig Second: Jackie Steele Lead: Sheila Harvey Alternate: Isobel TorranceNorrköpings CK, Norrköping Fourth: Maud Nordlander Skip: Inga Arfwidsson Second: Ulrika Åkerberg Lead: Barbro ArfwidssonBern CC, Bern Skip: Erika Müller Third: Barbara Meyer Second: Barbara Meier Lead: Franziska JöhrFairbanks CC, Fairbanks Skip: Bev Birklid Third: Peggy Martin Second: Jerry Evans Lead: Katrina Sharp Round robin standings KeyTeams to playoffsTeams to tiebreaker CountrySkipWL Erika Müller 8 1 Linda Moore 7 2 Inga Arfwidsson 6 3 Isobel Torrance Jr. 5 4 Andrea Schöpp 5 4 Helena Blach 4 5 Eva Vanvik 4 5 Paulette Sulpice 3 6 Bev Birklid 2 7 Maria-Grazzia Constantini 1 8 Round robin results Draw 1 (Birklid) 3 (Moore) 13 (Vanvik) 4 (Müller) 9 (Blach) 4 (Torrance) 3 (Arfwidsson) 8 (Schöpp) 5 (Sulpice) 8 (Constantini) 5 Draw 2 (Sulpice) 9 (Vanvik) 6 (Torrance) 8 (Constantini) 5 (Birklid) 7 (Arfwidsson) 11 (Blach) 6 (Moore) 7 (Müller) 10 (Schöpp) 4 Draw 3 (Schöpp) 12 (Constantini) 6 (Moore) 4 (Arfwidsson) 3 (Müller) 8 (Sulpice) 6 (Torrance) 5 (Birklid) 7 (Blach) 12 (Vanvik) 3 Draw 4 (Moore) 8 (Müller) 2 (Blach) 7 (Birklid) 6 (Vanvik) 13 (Constantini) 5 (Schöpp) 5 (Sulpice) 4 (Arfwidsson) 9 (Torrance) 3 Draw 5 (Blach) 7 (Sulpice) 1 (Müller) 6 (Torrance) 5 (Moore) 6 (Schöpp) 5 (Vanvik) 9 (Arfwidsson) 4 (Constantini) 3 (Birklid) 8 Draw 6 (Constantini) 3 (Arfwidsson) 10 (Birklid) 3 (Schöpp) 7 (Torrance) 10 (Vanvik) 4 (Müller) 8 (Blach) 5 (Moore) 7 (Sulpice) 5 Draw 7 (Vanvik) 10 (Birklid) 9 (Constantini) 3 (Moore) 10 (Arfwidsson) 6 (Müller) 11 (Sulpice) 4 (Torrance) 6 (Schöpp) 10 (Blach) 3 Draw 8 (Torrance) 4 (Schöpp) 2 (Arfwidsson) 5 (Sulpice) 3 (Constantini) 7 (Blach) 5 (Moore) 4 (Vanvik) 8 (Birklid) 4 (Müller) 10 Draw 9 (Arfwidsson) 5 (Blach) 4 (Schöpp) 10 (Vanvik) 3 (Sulpice) 10 (Birklid) 2 (Constantini) 3 (Müller) 10 (Torrance) 8 (Moore) 3 Tiebreaker (Schöpp) 4 (Torrance) 10 Playoffs Semifinals Final 1 3 4 4 2 6 3 4 4 2 2 5 Bronze Medal Game 1 6 3 4 Semifinals (Müller) 3 (Torrance) 4 (Moore) 6 (Arfwidsson) 4 Bronze medal game (Müller) 6 (Arfwidsson) 4 Final World Women's March 24, 1985 12 Victoria Times-Colonist https://www.newspapers.com/clip/121404566/times-colonist/ March 22, 2023 (Moore) 1 0 0 0 1 1 0 1 1 X 5 (Torrance) 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 X 2 1985 H&M World Women's Curling Championship CAN Canada 3rd References 66 Category:World Women's Curling Championship H&M World Women's Curling Championship Category:Women's curling competitions in Sweden Category:International curling competitions hosted by Sweden H&M World Women's Curling Championship Category:Sports competitions in Jönköping H&M World Women's Curling Championship Category:20th century in Jönköping County
