It was hosted by Saudi Arabia in October 1992, and was won by Argentina, who beat the hosts Saudi Arabia 3–1 in the final. The 1992 tournament was the only one not to feature a group stage and only featured four nations. In 1997, FIFA took over the organization of the tournament, named it the FIFA Confederations Cup and staged the competition every two years and recognized the first two editions.http://www.fifa4s.com/fs-207_01e_fcc.pdf FIFA Confederations Cup 13 May 2017 https://web.archive.org/web/20160304081616/http://www.fifa4s.com/fs-207_01e_fcc.pdf 4 March 2016 dead Qualified teams 300px|thumb|1992 King Fahd Cup participating teams TeamConfederationQualification methodParticipation no.KSAAFCHosts and 1988 AFC Asian Cup winners1stUSACONCACAF1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup winners1stARGCONMEBOL1991 Copa América winners1stCIVCAF1992 African Cup of Nations winners1st Squads 1992 King Fahd Cup squads Venue All matches were played at the 75,000-capacity King Fahd International Stadium in the city of Riyadh. +Saudi Arabia Location of the host city of the 1992 King Fahd Cup. center 320 Saudi Arabia 24.633333 46.716667 bottom RiyadhRiyadhKing Fahd International StadiumCapacity: 75,000197x197px Match referees Africa MRI Lim Kee Chong Asia SYR 1980 Jamal Al Sharif North, Central America and Caribbean CRC Rodrigo Badilla South America BRA Ulisses Tavares da Silva Final tournament 1992 King Fahd Cup final tournament Bracket 16 October – Riyadh ARG 4 CIV 0 15 October – Riyadh USA 0 KSA 3 20 October – Riyadh ARG 3 KSA 1 19 October – Riyadh USA 5 CIV 2 Semi-finals 15 October 1992 USA 0–3 Report KSA Al-Bishi 48 pen.Al-Thunayan 74Al-Muwallid 84 King Fahd International Stadium, Riyadh 70,000 Ulisses Tavares da Silva (Brazil) 16 October 1992 ARG 4–0 Report CIV Batistuta 2 10Altamirano 67Acosta 81 King Fahd International Stadium, Riyadh 15,000 Jamal Al Sharif (Syria) Third place match 19 October 1992 USA 5–2 Report CIV Balboa 12Jones 31Wynalda 56Murray 67 83 Traoré 16Sié 76 King Fahd International Stadium, Riyadh 9,500 Rodrigo Badilla (Costa Rica) Final 1992 King Fahd Cup final 20 October 1992 ARG 3–1 Report KSA Rodríguez 18Caniggia 24Simeone 64 Al-Owairan 65 King Fahd International Stadium, Riyadh 75,000 Lim Kee Chong (Mauritius) Statistics Goalscorers With two goals, Gabriel Batistuta and Bruce Murray were the top scorers in the tournament.
