Australian Club World Championship Qualifying Tournament 2005 Australia 7–15 May 2005 7 Sydney FC Central Coast Mariners Adelaide United Perth Glory OFC Club Championship Sydney FC 6 11 48570 Nik Mrdja (3 goals) The 2005 Australian Club World Championship Qualifying Tournament was as association football knock-out competition to determine the Australian entrant into the 2005 OFC Club Championship. The tournament consisted of seven teams, being the teams competing in the inaugural A-League season in 2005–06, with the exception of New Zealand Knights. A standalone tournament was necessary to determine to determine Australia's Oceania Club Championship entrant for the year as there had yet to be any competitive matches for the new A-League clubs. It was to be a one-off competition, with Australia joining the Asian Football Confederation from 2006 onwards, and future continental qualification places determined by teams' performances in the A-League. The competition represented the first competitive matches of any kind for several of the teams.https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/fans-to-get-taste-of-a-league-action-20050218-gdkrbc.html Fans to get taste of A-League action Sydney Morning Herald 18 February 2005 13 April 2020 Perth Glory was given a bye in the first round as Champions of the final National Soccer League season.Football Federation Australia Fans get first chance to see new clubs in action 17 February 2005 Sydney FC won the tournament, defeating Central Coast Mariners 1–0 in the final.http://smh.com.au/sport/soccer/sydney-fc-gets-a-shot-at-the-big-time-20050516-gdlbsh.html Sydney FC gets a shot at the big-time 16 May 2005 13 April 2020 Sydney Morning Herald The final was scheduled to be held at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide but was moved to Express Advocate Stadium in Gosford after two teams based in New South Wales qualified for the game.https://www.abc.net.au/news/2005-05-12/sydney-fc-to-meet-mariners-in-football-final/1569366 Sydney FC to meet Mariners in football final ABC News 12 May 2005 13 April 2020 Bracket n 180px 25px Round 1(7 May) Semi-finals(11 May) Finals(15 May) Sydney FC 3 Queensland Roar 0 Central Coast Mariners 0 (4) Newcastle Jets 0 (2) Adelaide United 0 (4) Melbourne Victory 0 (1) Perth Glory 1 Sydney FC 2 Central Coast Mariners 4 Adelaide United 0 Sydney FC 1 Central Coast Mariners 0 Matches Quarter-finals 2005 05 07 y 17:00 AEST Sydney FC 3 Queensland Roar 0 http://www.aleaguestats.com/A-League_27MatchDetails_1.html Packer 18Talay 41 pen.Petrovski 53 Express Advocate Stadium Gosford 8,000 2005 05 07 y 19:30 AEST Central Coast Mariners 0 Newcastle Jets 0 y https://webarchive.nla.gov.au/awa/20050714193458/http://www.ccmariners.com.au/aleague/CCM/article/show.asp?articleid=8900&menuItemID= Express Advocate Stadium Gosford 9,809 Petrie Mrdja Clark Heffernan 4–2 Milicic Parisi Johnson Kohler 2005 05 07 y 19:30 ACST Adelaide United 0 Melbourne Victory 0 y https://webarchive.nla.gov.au/awa/20050712075423/http://www.a-league.com.au/public/article/show.asp?articleid=8904 Hindmarsh Stadium Adelaide 7,254 Costanzo Alagich Veart Brain 4–1 Diaco Sarkies Allsopp Semi-finals 2005 05 11 y 19:30 AEST Central Coast Mariners 4 Adelaide United 0 http://www.aleaguestats.com/A-League_27MatchDetails_5.html Mrdja 20 pen. 43 65Petrie 24 Express Advocate Stadium Gosford 4,539 2005 05 11 y 19:30 WST Perth Glory 1 Sydney FC 2 http://www.aleaguestats.com/A-League_27MatchDetails_4.html Talay 47 o.g.
