American college football season February 2026 August 2023 1959 Idaho Vandals football Independent 1–9 Skip Stahley 6th Neale Stadium The 1959 Idaho Vandals football team represented the University of Idaho in the 1959 college football season. Led by sixth-year head coach Skip Stahley, the Vandals were an independent in the NCAA's University Division and had a 1–9 record. Two home games were played on campus at Neale Stadium in Moscow, with one in Boise at old Bronco Stadium at Boise Junior College. The Pacific Coast Conference disbanded in the spring, and Idaho was an independent in football for the next six seasons. They played ten games for the first time; the first six were on the road, and two games were played at night (at Arizona and Pacific). The Vandals suffered a fifth straight loss in the Battle of the Palouse with neighbor Washington State; Idaho led at halftime, but fell 5–27 at Rogers Field in Pullman. In the rivalry game with Montana at Neale Stadium, the Vandals narrowly retained the Little Brown Stein in the finale to avoid going winless. After this season, Stahley took on the dual role of athletic director in July 1960.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=yDVWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=IOgDAAAAIBAJ&pg=7080%2C2445267 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Stahley new Idaho "A.D." in addition to grid post March 22, 1960 13https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=vcpeAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ljIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2937%2C179669 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press Stahley assumes dual role at Idaho as Gibb departs July 2, 1960 2 Schedule Pacific September 19 12:30 p.m. l y Utah State old Romney Stadium Logan, UT 0–14 3,200 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=DjNWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=n-cDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3402%2C1775670 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Associated Press Utah State shocks Idaho eleven, 14-0 September 20, 1959 1, sports September 26 2:00 p.m. l y Washington Husky Stadium Seattle, WA 0–23 24,476 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=FTNWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=n-cDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6318%2C4283120 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Missildine Harry Huskies batter Idaho, 23-0 September 27, 1959 1, sportshttps://news.google.com/newspapers?id=N5hfAAAAIBAJ&sjid=UjEMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2438%2C4260252 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press Fast-starting Huskies subdue Vandals 23-0 September 27, 1959 12 October 3 7:00 p.m. l y Arizona Arizona Stadium Tucson, AZ 14–16 19,500 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-idaho-statesman-late-arizona-field-g/169747958/ The Idaho Statesman Late Arizona field goal drops Idaho team 16–14 October 4, 1959 April 6, 2025 Newspapers.com October 10 12:30 p.m. l y Air Force DU Stadium Denver, CO 0–21 17,393 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=f8xeAAAAIBAJ&sjid=vTIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=5628%2C1645688 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press Air Force strafes Vandals October 11, 1959 9 October 17 1:30 p.m. l y Oregon State Parker Stadium Corvallis, OR 18–66 10,628 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=6hZWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8eIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5865%2C2974788 Eugene Register-Guard Oregon Associated Press Winless OSC, Idaho clash at Corvallis October 16, 1959 2Bhttps://news.google.com/newspapers?id=7BZWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8eIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6615%2C3163139 Eugene Register-Guard Oregon Mullin Bob OSC rips Vandals by 66-18 October 18, 1959 2B October 24 2:00 p.m. l y Washington State Rogers Field Pullman, WA Battle of the Palouse https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=HG0pAAAAIBAJ&sjid=5ecDAAAAIBAJ&pg=7039%2C3106593 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Missildine Harry Warm, dry day seen for Washington State - Idaho game October 24, 1959 10https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=jcxeAAAAIBAJ&sjid=vTIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=4101%2C3874310 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press WSU's second half thrusts bury plucky Vandals 27-5 October 25, 1959 10https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=HW0pAAAAIBAJ&sjid=5ecDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6280%2C3645741 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Missildine Harry Cougars beat Idaho with big second half October 25, 1959 1, sports 5–27 19,200 October 31 1:30 p.m. l y Oregon Neale Stadium Moscow ID 7–45 7,000 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=I20pAAAAIBAJ&sjid=5ecDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5141%2C5469420 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Oregon favored at Idaho October 31, 1959 9https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=9WwpAAAAIBAJ&sjid=cOcDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6464%2C529750 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Talented Cougars win; Idaho walloped November 1, 1959 1, sports November 7 12:30 p.m. l y Utah old Bronco Stadium Boise, ID 13–47 8,500 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=GLJeAAAAIBAJ&sjid=zi8MAAAAIBAJ&pg=5836%2C1073220 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press Utes crush Vandals with late outburst November 8, 1959 2 November 14 8:00 p.m. l y Pacific (CA) Pacific Memorial Stadium Stockton, CA 13–28 8,000 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=TIczAAAAIBAJ&sjid=yO4HAAAAIBAJ&pg=5277%2C904919 Lodi News-Sentinel California COP rolls over Idaho, 28-13 November 16, 1959 10 November 21 1:00 p.m. w Montana Neale Stadium Moscow, ID Little Brown Stein 9–6 4,000 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=JrJeAAAAIBAJ&sjid=zi8MAAAAIBAJ&pg=3959%2C3270280 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press Vandals edge tough Montana to end victory drouth November 22, 1959 8https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=c2NWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=-PEDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6408%2C2161619 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Dillman Dick Vandals win, muscular Huskies demolish WSU November 22, 1959 1, sports Coaching staff Don Swartz, line Ed Knecht, backs J.
