The final day was a controversial one, with the British and Slovene teams having to decide promotion based on overall goal differential. The British beat the Kazakhs by an improbable nine goals. When coach Chris McSorley was asked how much he paid the Kazakhs, he responded, "zero, you have not much confidence in your team, I think Slovenia can beat Estonia by at least 12 goals."Group B summary The medal presentation was marred by Slovenian fans throwing debris on the ice when the Brits received their silver medals, the Kazakh team did not even attend to receive their bronze. main WDL PR 2 n y SLO SLO GBR GBR KAZ KAZ CRO CRO CHN CHN EST EST 4 1 0 44 6 4 1 0 42 9 3 0 2 35 21 1 1 3 17 45 1 0 4 8 39 0 1 4 13 39 green1 P red1 R complete IIHF #eeeeee April 15, 200111:00 KAZ 12–1 CHN #ffffff April 15, 200114:30 GBR 6–2 EST #eeeeee April 15, 200118:00 CRO 1–15 SLO #ffffff April 17, 200111:00 EST 3–8 KAZ #eeeeee April 17, 200114:30 GBR 10–1 CRO #ffffff April 17, 200118:00 SLO 7–1 CHN #eeeeee April 18, 200111:00 CRO 3–12 KAZ #ffffff April 18, 200114:30 CHN 3–2 EST #eeeeee April 18, 200118:00 SLO 3–3 GBR #ffffff April 20, 200111:00 GBR 12–1 CHN #eeeeee April 20, 200114:30 EST 6–6 CRO #ffffff April 20, 200118:00 KAZ 1–3 SLO #eeeeee April 21, 200111:00 CHN 2–6 CRO #ffffff April 21, 200114:30 KAZ 2–11 GBR #eeeeee April 21, 200118:00 EST 0–16 SLO POL and SLO are promoted to the 2002 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships, while EST and LTU 1988 are relegated to Division II.
