The Cup's purpose is to support and promote the second-tier Australian rules football competitions and to provide another way of developing lower-tier Australian Football League (AFL) players. The format of the competition was as follows: Nine teams competed. With the exception of the pre-qualifying round, matches were played on Tuesday nights as stand alone games and be broadcast by Fox Footy. The champions received $100,000 in prize money, and the runners-up received $40,000. The top two sides from Western Australia (East Perth and West Perth) joined Norwood and reigning Foxtel Cup champion West Adelaide from South Australia,http://www.sanfl.com.au/news/sanfl_news/2331/ BLOODS, LEGS IN FOXTEL CUP 20 November 2013 Box Hill Hawks and Williamstown from Victoria, and Tasmanian representative Western Storm,The Examiner Launceston, TAS http://www.examiner.com.au/story/1922210/prospect-inclusion-in-cup-slammed-by-south/?cs=12 Prospect inclusion in cup slammed by South 20 November 2013 10 April 2014 Phil Edwards as participants in the 2014 Foxtel Cup.http://www.williamstownfc.com.au/williamstown-in-2014-foxtel-cup/ Williamstown in 2014 Foxtel Cup 7 November 2013 22 November 2013 https://web.archive.org/web/20131203031853/http://www.williamstownfc.com.au/williamstown-in-2014-foxtel-cup/ 3 December 2013 dead North East Australian Football League qualifiers, Aspley and Belconnen, competed against each other in Round 1 of the 2014 NEAFL competition as a pre-qualifying round, with Aspley winning through to play Williamstown in round 1 of the Foxtel Cup.http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-11-29/2014-foxtel-cup-announced 2014 Foxtel Cup announced 29 November 2013 The selection of Western Storm, a club which was competing in the Tasmanian Football League for the first time in 2014, as Tasmania's representative was controversial, but came as a result of the defending Tasmanian Football League premiers, South Launceston, leaving the league. The majority of South Launceston's senior list shifted to Western Storm, so AFL Tasmania decided that the new club was a sufficiently close representation of the defending premiers to allow it to compete in the Foxtel Cup, rather than substituting the 2013 runners-up Burnie. The competition began in March 2014 and concluded with Williamstown winning their second Foxtel Cup championship by defeating West Perth in the Grand Final at Simonds Stadium on 22 July 2014. The Coles medal for best on ground in the Grand Final was awarded to Williamstown's Ben Davies. The coach of Williamstown was Andrew Collins, former 200+ game triple premiership player with Hawthorn, who had coached West Adelaide to the Foxtel Cup championship the year previous. 2014 season Participating clubs 15em start NEAFL Eastern Conference (1) Belconnen NEAFL Northern Conference (1) Aspley SANFL (2) Norwood West Adelaide 340px break File:Australia-blank-locator.png 0.35 0.47 438 Williamstown 0.55 0.46 438 Box Hill 0.655 0.28 434 Aspley -0.013 0.38 438 East Perth -0.015 0.35 438 West Perth 0.30 0.37 438 West Adelaide 0.31 0.425 438 Norwood 0.60 0.41 438 Belconnen 0.56 0.52 438 Western Storm 12em break TFL (1) Western Storm VFL (2) Box Hill Williamstown WAFL (2) East Perth West Perth end Club details Guernsey Club Nickname Location Qualified as40px Aspley Australian Football Clubhttp://aspley.aflq.com.au/ Aspley Australian Football Club Official Website 29 November 2013 https://web.archive.org/web/20070221041033/http://aspley.aflq.com.au/ 21 February 2007 dead Hornets Carseldine, Queensland North East Australian Football League Northern Conference runners-up 201340px Belconnen Football ClubBelconnen Football Club Official Website Magpies Belconnen, Australian Capital Territory North East Australian Football League Eastern Conference runners-up 201340px Box Hill Hawks Football ClubBox Hill Hawks Football Club Official Website Hawks Box Hill, Victoria Victorian Football League premiers 2013 40px East Perth Football ClubEast Perth Football Club Official Website Royals Leederville, Western Australia West Australian Football League runners-up 201340px Norwood Football ClubNorwood Football Club Official Website Redlegs Norwood, South Australia South Australian National Football League premiers 201340px West Adelaide Football ClubWest Adelaide Football Club Official Website Bloods Richmond, South Australia South Australian National Football League Reigning Foxtel Cup champions40px Western Storm Football ClubWestern Storm Football Club Official Website Storm Prospect, Tasmania Tasmanian State League representative40px West Perth Football ClubWest Perth Football Club Official Website Falcons Joondalup, Western Australia West Australian Football League premiers 201340px Williamstown Football Clubhttp://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi?c=1-118-10459-0-0 Williamstown FC Sportingpulse Website 7 November 2013 22 February 2012 https://web.archive.org/web/20120222153142/http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi?c=1-118-10459-0-0 dead Seagulls Williamstown, Victoria Victorian Football League 3rd place 2013 Stadiums Adelaide Geelong Melbourne Adelaide OvalCapacity: 50,000 Simonds StadiumCapacity: 33,500 Etihad StadiumCapacity: 56,347 200px 200px 200px Melbourne Perth Melbourne Cricket GroundCapacity: 100,000 Patersons StadiumCapacity: 43,500 200px 200px Fixture The AFL released the fixture on 29 November 2013. 2014 Foxtel Cup Fixture Bracket 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 3 no QLDAspley 25 23 173 ACT Belconnen 2 5 17 South Australia West Adelaide 8 9 57 Tasmania Western Storm 9 7 61 VIC Box Hill 7 9 51 Western Australia West Perth 7 11 53 VIC Williamstown 14 9 93 QLD Aspley 7 6 48 Western Australia East Perth 9 11 65 South Australia Norwood 2 3 15 Tasmania Western Storm 3 5 23 Western Australia West Perth 15 7 97 VIC Williamstown 10 11 71 Western Australia East Perth 7 5 47 Western Australia West Perth 1 2 8 VIC Williamstown 10 11 71 Qualifying round Qualifier 29 March 2014 12:00 EST Aspley 173–17 stand alone game match report Belconnen 7.3 (45) 9.9 (63) 20.14 (134) 25.23 (173) 0.1 (1) 2.2 (14) 2.2 (14) 2.5 (17) Graham Road, Aspley match report E.Sansbury 6, J.Stanley 3, C.Stiller 3, C.French 2, D.Smith 2, M.Pettitt 2, R.Copeland, M.Payne, M.Hutchinson, D.Bevan, A.Hughes, R.Matthews, J.Ives M.Porter, M.
