The Wildcats, coached by Matthew Mitchell, are a member of the Southeastern Conference, and played their home games on campus at Memorial Coliseum—unlike UK's famous men's program, which played off-campus at Rupp Arena in downtown Lexington. Pre-season outlook The Wildcats returned four starters, including 2012 SEC Player of the Year A'dia Mathies and SEC Freshman of the Year Bria Goss, from a team that finished 28–7 and won their second regular-season Southeastern Conference title in school history, their first since 1981–82. Jennifer O'Neil also returned after sitting out the 2011–12 season with a knee injury, and Kentucky added DeNesha Stallworth (transfer from California), Jelleah Sidney (transfer from Chipola Junior College), and Janee Thompson (McDonald's All-American from Whitney Young High School).http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/100412aaa.html https://archive.today/20130705033836/http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/100412aaa.html dead July 5, 2013 UK Hoops Ranks in Top 10 of Preseason Magazines ukathletics.com October 4, 2012 July 4, 2013 The Wildcats were ranked 6th in the Associated Press Preseason Poll, the highest preseason ranking in school history.http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/102712aaa.html UK Hoops Ranked No. 6 in Preseason AP Poll ukathletics.com October 27, 2012 July 4, 2013 https://web.archive.org/web/20121101030459/http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/102712aaa.html November 1, 2012 dead The SEC coaches also picked Kentucky as the preseason favorite to win the 2012–13 conference title and named A'dia Mathies preseason player of the year.http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/110612aaa.html SEC Coaches Select UK Hoops to Win League Crown ukathletics.com November 6, 2012 July 4, 2013 https://web.archive.org/web/20121119031343/http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/110612aaa.html November 19, 2012 dead Recruiting Janee Thompson PG Chicago, Illinois Whitney Young HS 5 7 2011-10-31 94 no 2012–13 roster From the official UK women's basketball site https://web.archive.org/web/20130601044813/http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/archive/kty-13-wball-roster.html 2013-06-01 : #NameHeightPositionClassHometownPrevious Team(s)Scholarship Players0Jennifer O'Neill5'6"GRS So.Bronx, New YorkSaint Michael Academy1A'dia Mathies5'9"GSr.Louisville, KentuckyIroquois3Janee Thompson5'7"GFr.Chicago, IllinoisWhitney Young10Bernisha Pinkett5'7"GJr.Washington, District of ColumbiaHoward D.
