Three of the four future Big Sky opponents were on the schedule in 1962: Montana, Montana State, and Idaho State. This was the last Vandal football season, with only nine games scheduled. The following year had ten, but the last was canceled due to the assassination of President Kennedy. Idaho first played a ten-game schedule in 1959, and it resumed in 1964. Andros, the line coach at Illinois, played and coached under Bud Wilkinson at Oklahoma after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. He was named head coach at age 37 in February and took over for Skip Stahley, who stepped down after eight seasons and remained as athletic director.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=jLpeAAAAIBAJ&sjid=qTAMAAAAIBAJ&pg=4176,2473033 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Illinois aide Dee Andros named Idaho football coach Carter Jack February 18, 1962 8https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=c1spAAAAIBAJ&sjid=-ugDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6720%2C1093680 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Former Sooner guard new Idaho coach Missildine Harry February 18, 1962 1-sportshttps://news.google.com/newspapers?id=5jJYAAAAIBAJ&sjid=SfcDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5562%2C4240258 Spokane Daily Chronicle Washington New Vandal coach (photo) February 19, 1962 11 Andros' starting annual salary at Idaho was just under $12,500.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=CcNWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=VfcDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6682,5783796 Spokane Daily Chronicle Washington Associated Press ISC coaches lodge complaint: Idaho's salaries reported higher April 21, 1962 10 Schedule Pacific September 22 2:00 pm l y Utah State old Bronco Stadium Boise, ID 7–45 8,500 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=pb5eAAAAIBAJ&sjid=MDEMAAAAIBAJ&pg=5974%2C3382097 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press Utah State whips Vandals 45-7; fumbles hurt Idaho September 23, 1962 8 September 29 1:30 pm w Idaho State Neale Stadium Moscow, ID rivalry 9–6 8,448 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sunday-oregonian-vandals-tip-idaho-s/174894955/ The Sunday Oregonian Vandals tip Idaho State September 30, 1962 June 20, 2025 Newspapers.com October 6 12:30 pm l y Montana Dornblaser Field Missoula, MT Little Brown Stein 16–22 October 13 7:00 pm t y San Jose State Spartan Stadium San Jose, CA 12–12 2,500 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=rb9eAAAAIBAJ&sjid=VzEMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2432%2C2111261 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press Idaho, San Jose play to muddy tie October 14, 1962 10 October 20 1:00 pm l y Montana State Gatton Field Bozeman, MT 15–33 7,400 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=WrRWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=5ugDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5480%2C1953992 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Associated Press Bobcats wallop UI Vandals, 33-15 October 21, 1962 2, sports October 27 12:30 pm l y Utah Ute Stadium Salt Lake City, UT 21–25 11,320 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-spokesman-review-utah-battles-from-b/155271506/ The Spokesman-Review Utah battles from behind, nips stubborn Idaho 25–21 October 28, 1962 September 14, 2024 Newspapers.com November 3 7:00 pm w y Arizona Arizona Stadium Tucson, AZ 14–12 20,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-idaho-statesman-idaho-rallies-in-fou/155269380/ The Idaho Statesman Idaho rallies in fourth for 14–12 win at Arizona November 4, 1962 September 14, 2024 Newspapers.com November 10 1:30 pm l y Oregon State Neale Stadium Moscow, ID 0–32 9,500 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=pm0pAAAAIBAJ&sjid=AukDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6645%2C3914864 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Koslowsky Hank WSU, Vandals bow to Oregonians November 11, 1962 1, sports November 17 1:30 pm l Washington State Neale Stadium Moscow, ID Battle of the Palouse 14–22 12,000 https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=EjhWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=0OgDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6240%2C1110882 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Missildine Harry Cougars' rally beats Vandals 22-14 November 18, 1962 1, sports Coaching staff Dick Monroe, line John Easterbrook, offensive backshttps://news.google.com/newspapers?id=gcZeAAAAIBAJ&sjid=LDIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=5344%2C1974513 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Andros appoints two assistants as he assume duties at Idaho March 13, 1962 8 Bud Riley, freshmen All-Coast No Vandals made the All-Coast team or the second team; honorable mention was guard Denny Almquist.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=b6dYAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Z_cDAAAAIBAJ&pg=4300%2C592839 Spokane Daily Chronicle Washington Associated Press All-Coast lineups December 4, 1962 17https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=If9VAAAAIBAJ&sjid=1uIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6710%2C676742 Eugene Register-Guard Oregon Associated Press Trio from Oregon gain All-Coast December 4, 1962 3Bhttps://news.google.com/newspapers?id=nLBfAAAAIBAJ&sjid=-zIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=5384%2C662136 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Associated Press WSU's Campbell repeats as All-Coast end December 5, 1962 10 References External links Gem of the Mountains: 1963 University of Idaho yearbook – 1962 football season Go Mighty Vandals – 1962 football season Official game program: Idaho at Utah – October 27, 1962 Idaho Argonaut – student newspaper – 1962 editions Idaho Category:Idaho Vandals football seasons Idaho Vandals football
