New teams to the division included Dudley Kingswinford who were promoted as the champions of Midlands Division 1 and Tynedale who were champions of North Division 1 with no northern based teams being relegated from the 1999-00 Jewson National League One.http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/midlands-division/1999-2000/ Midlands 1 1999-00 englandrugby.com 8 April 2000 8 September 2015 24 September 2015 https://web.archive.org/web/20150924042536/http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/midlands-division/1999-2000/ dead http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/northern-division/1999-2000/ North 1 1999-00 englandrugby.com 6 May 2000 8 September 2015 24 September 2015 https://web.archive.org/web/20150924051308/http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/northern-division/1999-2000/ dead The league system was 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw with the promotion system changing for this season with a playoff system being introduced. The champions of both National Division Three North and National Division Three South would automatically go up but the runners up of these two divisions would meet each other in a one off match (at the home ground of the side with the superior league record) to see who would claim the third and final promotion place to National Division Two for the following season. The season was a very fractured one due to the 2001 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth outbreak which primarily affected the two northernmost clubs in the division - Aspatria and Tynedale - leading to a large number of fixtures being cancelled in the latter half of the season.http://www.tynedalerfc.co.uk/rugby/archive/archives/rep2000-1.htm Chief Executive's Report 2000-01 Tynedale RFC 26 May 2001 March 2019 InternetArchiveBot yes The league champions were Stourbridge who pipped Sedgley Park to the league title by just one point to gain promotion to the 2001–02 National Division Two.http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/national-leagues/2000-2001/group/9948 National League Three North 2000-01 englandrugby.com 26 May 2001 Sedgley Park would join them soon after when they won their promotion playoff game at home against the 2000-01 National Division Three South runners up Launceston in front of over 1,000 fans.http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/national-leagues/2000-2001/group/9950 National League 3 Playoffs 2000-01 englandrugby.com 26 May 2001 8 September 2015 6 March 2016 https://web.archive.org/web/20160306235728/http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/national-leagues/2000-2001/group/9950 dead The foot-and-mouth outbreak made relegation far from straightforward as initially the bottom two were Aspatria and Tynedale, who had played 18 games each - less than any of the other teams in the division. In Tynedale's case this was particularly hard as they were only 1 point behind 12th placed Sandal but had played six games less. In the end the RFU had to re-think relegation and used a complicated process based on early season form which meant that 14th placed Aspatria and 11th placed Walsall went down.https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1309164/Rugby-clubs-face-relegation-over-foot-and-mouth.html Rugby clubs face relegation over foot and mouth Telegraph 19 June 2001 Aspatria dropped to North Division 1 while Walsall went into Midlands Division 1.http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/northern-division/2001-2002/group/10057 North 1 2001-02 englandrugby.com 8 September 2001 http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/midlands-division/2001-2002/ Midlands 1 2001-02 englandrugby.com/ 8 September 2001 8 September 2015 24 September 2015 https://web.archive.org/web/20150924044253/http://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/competitions/midlands-division/2001-2002/ dead yes Participating teams and locations England 450 right 2000–01 National 3 North teams in England England 54.7617302 -3.3310001 white Aspatria right 80 England 52.1593819 -0.4381700 white Bedford Athletic right 80 England 53.5157 -1.1327 white Doncaster right 80 England 52.4981719 -2.169995 white Dudley left 80 England 53.456307 -2.737094 white LiverpoolSH top 80 England 53.744513 -1.598044 white Morley top 80 England 53.4152412 -3.1054399 white New Brighton left 80 England 52.520489 -1.465381 white Nuneaton right 80 England 53.652981 -1.479936 white Sandal right 80 England 53.5520 -2.299201 white Sedgley Park bottom 80 England 52.456891 -2.148730 white Stourbridge bottom 80 England 54.967392 -2.01826 white Tynedale right 80 England 52.5696734 -1.9712583 white Walsall top 80 England 52.962837 -2.6756309 white Whitchurch right 80 TeamGroundCapacityCity/AreaPrevious seasonAspatria Bower Park3,000 (300 seats)Tetley's Official Rugby Union Club Directory 1997–98 1997 Tony Williams Publications Ltd Taunton 10th Stephen McCormack 362 Aspatria R.U.F.C.
