The Duke of Dorset supposedly commented that it was 'a bleak place to play cricket', and others agreed. The Down is actually two miles from the village of Hambledon, and it is uphill. Deciding that it was too remote, the club's members decided that Windmill Down, adjacent to the village, would be a more suitable venue.Birley 1999 39 First mentions Clubs and teams East KentHaygarth 1996 47–49 LeicesterBuckley 1935 92–93 Leicestershire & RutlandBuckley 1935 92–93 Melton MowbrayBuckley 1935 92 OdihamWaghorn 2005 54 Counties CheshireBuckley 1937 10Bowen 1970 266 LancashireBuckley 1937 10Bowen 1970 266 Players Hogben (Kent)Haygarth 1996 48–50 J.
