The Dodgers drafted 42 players in the June draft and eight in the January draft. Six players would eventually play in MLB. This was a weak draft class whose most notable player was Dennis Lewallyn, a pitcher who played for the Dodgers and two other teams from 1975 to 1981 with a 4–4 record and 4.48 ERA. The top draft pick was shortstop John Harbin from Newberry College who played in only 83 games in the Dodgers farm system in 1972 and was quickly out of baseball. 1972 draft picksJanuary draft 19721 Los Angeles Dodgers Picks in the MLB January Draft-Regular Phase RoundNamePositionSchoolSignedCareer spanHighest level 1John AdamsRHP Yes 1972–1974 A2Tim HoslerOF South Georgia CollegeNo 3Allen PolofskyLHP Miami Dade CollegeNo January secondary phase 1972 Los Angeles Dodgers Picks in the MLB January Draft-Secondary Phase RoundNamePositionSchoolSignedCareer spanHighest level 1Dennis LewallynRHP Chipola College Yes1972–1987 MLB2James Van Der BeekRHPLafayette College Yes 1972–1976 AAA3Francis SansostiRHP Community College of Baltimore County NoCardinals-1975 1975 A4Mike SianiSSVillanova University No 5Robert Sans1B Texas A&M University Yes 1972 A June draft 1972 Los Angeles Dodgers Picks in the MLB June Amateur Draft RoundNamePositionSchoolSignedCareer spanHighest level 1John HarbinSSNewberry CollegeYes1972A-2Cleo Smith1BElls High SchoolYes1972–1979AAA3Bob DetherageRHPHillcrest High SchoolYes1973–1981MLB4Larry CorriganCIowa State UniversityYes1973–1978AAA5Mitchell BobingerLHPChico High SchoolYes 1972–1978AAA6Alton TorreganoCUniversity of Louisiana at LafayetteYes 1972–1973 A7James FlemingSSSt. Peter's High SchoolYes 1973–1976 AA8Stephen PlutOFSt. Francis High SchoolNoAngels – 1975 1975–1978 AA9Robert StewartRHPMagnolia High SchoolYes 1972–1977 AA10William Kooyman3BSaint Mary's College of CaliforniaYes 1972–1974 A11Terry Zorger3BHuntington UniversityYes 1972–1973A-12Jere NolanOFUniversity of California, BerkeleyYes 1972–1974 AA13Hank BoguszewskiRHPGlen Cove High SchoolNo 14Michael RushdeOF Fontana High SchoolYes1972–1977AA15Jason ThompsonLHPApple Valley High SchoolYes 1975–1986 MLB16Douglas SchaeferRHPLindbergh High SchoolNoGiants-1975 1975–1981 AAA17Glenn BurkeOFMerritt CollegeYes1972–1980 MLB18Richard MagnerCRollins CollegeYes 1972–1977 AAA19Leonard WoutersRHPHampton Bays High SchoolYes 1972–1976 A20John LittlefieldRHPAzusa High SchoolNoCardinals-1976 1976–1982AAA21John Freedman3BClaremont High SchoolNo 1974 A-22Richard JacobsLHPUniversity of OklahomaNo 23Dale ForchettiSSNeshaminy High SchoolNo 24Don RedogliaSSPasadena City CollegeNo Cardinals-1975 1975 A25Kenneth SmithOFJefferson High SchoolNo 26Buff WhiteLHPFolsom High SchoolNo 27David Rothermel3BHillcrest High SchoolNo 28Steven O'BrienRHPMaryvale High SchoolYes 1972–1977 AAA29Samuel Roberts1BTennessee High School No 30Brian FeldaOF University of Wisconsin–OshkoshYes 1972–1975 A31Michael Parnow2BCollege of MarinYes 1972–1973 A-32James FiackCUniversity of California, DavisYes 1972–1973 A33Charles WalkerOFAtlanta Baptist CollegeYes 1972 A-34Jeff ChandlerLHPDavis High SchoolNoReds-1973 1973–1978 AA35Craig MinettoLHP Amos Alonzo Stagg High SchoolNoExpos-1974 1974–1984 MLB36David BakerCPacific High SchoolNo Phillies-1975 1975–1976 AA37Tom HaleyCBinger High SchoolNo 38Bob ShirleyLHPPutnam City High SchoolNoPadres-1976 1976–1988 MLB39Timothy LewisLHPGermantown AcademyNoYankees-1976 1976–1981 AAA June secondary phase 1972 Los Angeles Dodgers Picks in the MLB June Draft-Secondary Phase RoundNamePositionSchoolSignedCareer spanHighest level 1Robert LesslieRHP Kansas State UniversityYes 1972–1977AAA2Walter RzepiennikRHPCommunity College of Baltimore Yes 1972–1974 A3Robin Ogle1BMiami-Dade College NoPadres-1975 1975 A- Notes 2 References Baseball-Reference season page Baseball Almanac season page External links Baseball California 1972 Los Angeles Dodgers uniform Los Angeles Dodgers official web site Category:Los Angeles Dodgers seasons Los Angeles Dodgers season Los Angel
