On 23 May, the day of the first leg of the final, the RFU announced that London Welsh would not be eligible for promotion due to "various failures". The appeal by London Welsh was heard by an Independent Panel on 29 June who upheld it stating ″... that the Exiles should be promoted on the basis that they play their home games at Oxford's Kassam Stadium and that the club meet the minimum entry criteria to the league as imposed by the Professional Game Board.″ Chief Executive Officer of the RFU, Ian Richie, subsequently announced that there would be a full review of the Minimum Standard Criteria.Straughan Dick Falcons relegated as Welsh win RFU promotion appleal The Cornishman 5 July 2012 80 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/18651050 London Welsh win Premiership promotion, Newcastle relegated BBC Sport 2012-06-29 2012-06-29GMT https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/17912296 Wasps 10–14 Newcastle BBC Sport 2012-05-05 2012-05-11 yes Participating teams England 500 Locations of the 2011–12 RFU Championship teams England 52.1337 -0.4577 Bedford right England 51.45 -2.583333 Bristol right England 50.119 -5.537 Cornish Pirates right England 53.5157 -1.1327 Doncaster right England 51.38085 -0.38961 Esher left England 53 49 N 1 34 W Leeds right England 51.46647 -0.30334 London Scottish right England 51.4689 -0.2953 London Welsh left England 52.483056 -1.893611 Moseley right England 52.95 -1.133333 Nottingham right England 50.371397 -4.142431 Plymouth left England 53.4301 -1.3572 Rotherham left This season saw Leeds Carnegie back in the Championship following relegation from the Aviva Premiership during the 2010–11 season, as well as London Scottish, who won promotion to the Championship from the National League 1 during the same season.
