The mayor of the city of Dzerzhinskiy near Moscow was shot dead on Friday, March 31, as the Interfax news agency reports, quoting Moscow region law-enforcement officials. The body of Victor Dorkin, the head of the Local Government Board of Dzerzhinskiy, was found at 03:05 (GMT+3) in the city at 5 Tomilinskaya St. near the children's playground. Preliminary crime scene investigation reported that Dorkin suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and that 10 shells were found fired from a Makarov pistol. An investigation is in progress. Dorkin was 52. Dorkin was 52. He was educated as a chemical production engineer, and was a science candidate since 2004. He was first elected as mayor of Dzerzhinskiy in 1991.
